Wavelets, Robust Control, and Smart Structures

Professor Hojjat Adeli

Dr. Hojjat Adeli is Professor in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science, and Neuroscience, and Centers of Biomedical Engineering and Cognitive Science, and the Director of Knowledge Engineering Lab at The Ohio State University. He has authored nearly 400 research and scientific publications in various fields of computer science, engineering, and applied mathematics since 1976 when he received his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He has authored nine books including Machine Learning - Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, and Fuzzy Systems, Wiley, 1995, Neurocomputing for Design Automation, CRC Press, 1998, Distributed Computer-Aided Engineering, CRC Press, 1999, and Control, Optimization, and Smart Structures - High-Performance Bridges and Buildings of the Future, John Wiley and Sons, 1999. He has also edited twelve books including Knowledge Engineering - Vol. I - Fundamentals and Vol. II -Applications, McGraw-Hill, 1990. He is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the international research journals Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, now in 17th year of publication and Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering, now in 10th year of publication.

He has received over 100 academic, research, and leadership awards, honors, and recognition. In 1998 he received the Distinguished Scholar Award by The Ohio State University "in recognition of extraordinary accomplishment in research and scholarship". On September 29, 1998, he was awarded a patent for a "Method and Apparatus for Efficient Design Automation and Optimization, and Structures Produced Thereby." (United States Patent Number (5,815,394): (with a former Ph.D. student). In 1998 the Senate of the General Assembly of State of Ohio passed a resolution naming him an "Outstanding Ohioan". In recent years he has presented Keynote/Plenary Lecturer at 43 national and international computing conferences held in 28 different countries.
