Chair's Corner

Hey, it's spring! A little cold but at least it's normal weather for this time of year (knock on the nearest piece of wood). For some the semester is almost over and finals are just around the corner. For others, work is work and the next three day weekend is about six weeks away.

So what are the upcoming plans?

Thursday the 22nd April is the next Executive Committee meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend. It is at 6:00 p.m. in room ET 209 in the Engineering and Technology building on the IUPUI campus.

On May 15, Saturday, we will be hosting a PACE (Professional Awareness Committee for Engineers) event. The event is on Consultant's Network given by Gary Blank. This is a one day event from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This will be in room ET 202 in the Engineering and Technology building on the IUPUI campus. Register on line at www.cis-ieee.org . Cost is $85.00 for IEEE members.

In June we will have a Senior Member Rodeo. This is an event to help those members who are eligible for Senior Membership but have not filled out the paper work for one reason or another. We will have people there to help you through the process. Becoming a Senior Member is a hall mark of the profession and it helps out the Section as well. More details to follow soon.

In August we will have our third annual Indianapolis Indians Baseball game and picnic. This will occur on Sunday, August 15. Game time is 2:00 p.m. Watch the website for more information.

Are there tours that you would like the Central Indiana Section to Sponsor? Some place you've heard of and would like to see the behind the scenes? Let us know and we'll do our best to make it happen. We need and want your input.

In other news, Tom Bishop (Section Secretary) and I attended the Power Engineering/Industry Applications Society Student Awards dinner. This was a well attended event. Several students from Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and IUPUI Electrical Engineering Technology were recognized.

Congratulations to all recipients!!!

I would also like to congratulate those members that have achieved Senior Member status since the beginning of the year. They are:

Rudolff Eigenmann
Gerhard Klimeck
Yousef W. Nijim
Julia M. Williams

Congratulations to all recipients!!!

Last but definitely not least, I would like to pay tribute to Professor Marvin Needler. Professor Needler is retiring at the end of the academic year as Chairman of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Department at IUPUI. He has served as a member of IEEE for the past forty two years. In that time Professor Needler has held many positions from newsletter editor to Chairman of the Central Indiana Section to being our current Historian. Professor Needler has been a member of many societies. Professor Needler has been a tremendous help with his wisdom and knowledge that he has brought forth at the Executive Committee Meetings. And he has graciously allowed us to use the ECET department's conference room for our Executive Committee Meetings. Thank you very much for your assistance.
